Hello Friends,
Hope you've had an exciting week, just like I have had! I got to do some really cool things this week...Read all about it in my first ever post while being the big, the huge, and the cool 7 month old guide dog puppy in training!!
| I started off the weekend by attending a fall festival. As a fundraiser, my GEB region had a table to sell dog themed items. Plus, it's always great to get the word out about our organization. |
| There were lots of people there and many dogs...from really, really tall dogs (Great Danes) to tiny dogs (Chihuahuas!). It was great practice for me to watch the dogs walk by. |
| I had a great time, settling and watching the activities. |
My friend, Nia, was also at the event. She's a great dog and I really spending some time with her. She left today to go back to the training school. I asked her if she had any advice for me--she told me
1. Always listen to your mom because somehow, moms always know best.
2. Learn everything you can now because you can never learn too much.
3. Enjoy each and everyday because before long, it'll be your turn to go to doggie school. |
Happy Sunday! I went to church. As always, I was a very good boy and settled perfectly!
From Sunday afternoon to Thursday afternoon, I went on a "home-switch." As apart of our training as future guide dogs, we are required to go to another puppy raiser or puppy sitter's for a couple of days to 2 weeks. For this home-switch, I got an extra special experience....I went to college! Yep, I got the entire college experience--from going to classes to eating in the dinning hall to living in the dorm. For 5 whole days, I was a college student. Hopefully, I'll get some more pictures to add to this post soon, but until then, here's a couple for a sneak peak!

On Sunday, I did a people greeting with a man dressed in a suit of armor. Cool stuff! I also went to the dining hall, the library, piano practice (I settled perfectly, as seen above!!), and then, at night, I went to a soccer game.
On Monday and Tuesday- I went to several different classes. I slept through all of them, except one...in that one, I chewed my bone for the entire class! One of the classes I attended was piano class. It lasted an entire hour, but guess what? I slept through the entire class. Must be the music was that soothing..or that boring. The one professor said that he didn't even realize I was there and that I was welcome back anytime. I might just take him up on that offer!
Wednesday and Thursday-These days were more boring than the others because the student I was staying with had to attend her science labs...and she couldn't take me to those labs. So, instead, I got to practice being in my crate in the dorm room. Another girl, the one who was my handler at my training class a few weeks ago, came a couple of times to take me outside. Good deal.
My house manners (maybe I should call them "Dorm manners"?!) were great and I didn't get into any trouble. Everyone in the dorm building LOVED me and were asking when I can come back.
My dining hall manners were excellent. One time, there were French fries all over the place, and I ignored every one!
I went to the GEB club meeting on campus and had a great time.
I had a playdate with Ikea, who is being raised on campus. Actually, he and I are half-brothers because we have the same daddy, Maestro.
Of course, I got to have lots and lots of people greetings! Plus, I was able to practice walking by lots of students without going over to say hi. Good thing Mom and I have been practicing!
| I had to go shopping. Better stock up on water--all this school work makes me thirsty! |
| College is hard work!!! Look at this stack of homework. I need a nap! |
| I turned 7 months old this week. |
| Hmm...I think this sign is shrinking!! |
| I'm a 1/2 head taller than Harlow now! Also, it's official--I am just over 70 pounds at 7 months. That's over 13 pounds I've gained in a month!! |
Later in the week (when I was back with my mom), I went to a school to give a presentation about GEB to a 7th grade class. I did a great job, explaining how great my job is! My friend and classmate, Ward, was also in attendance.
| Mom and I had to sign in at the office. Look at what a good job I did auto-settling (that's settling without mom telling me to do so!). I made her very proud and was a great representative! |
| Here I am waiting for the students to arrive in the classroom. After the presentation, we were asked to go visit a special needs classroom. There was an autistic child there, and I did a fantastic job and settled right at his feet. He even got on the floor with me and petted me. Mom says that if I decide that I don't want to be a guide dog, I can always be a "Heeling Autism" service dog. How am I ever going to choose what I want to be when I grow up????? Good thing I have awhile to decide! |
Until Next Week,
Lex
