Week 52 from Lex's View

Greetings to my loyal readers!
This has been a very special week for two reasons!!
1. It's my 52nd week (a whole year!) of blogging and being with mom!
2. I welcomed a new member of my family.
Read all about it....

TGIF! Harlow and I enjoyed an evening of snuggling!

Then, we kicked off the weekend with a slumber party! It was great fun because mom put her mattress on the floor, and I got to sleep on it!

I woke up on Saturday morning, and I was still tired! I heard talk that it was going to be a very busy day with a special ending to the day. Hmm..that got me thinking!
I helped Mom run some errands at Wegmans. It was very busy with lots of people, kids, shopping carts, and noise. I handled the environment excellently!

My trademark head tilt

The checkout lines were very long, so I was able to practice my settling skills. I did very well.

Then, we had to make a stop to Wal-Mart. Mom was looking at the collars, and the ones she was looking at definitely wouldn't fit me. Hmmm..weird!

I practiced more settling at Wal-mart during checkout.

Later in the day, we got in the car and went shopping.
First, I went to Five Below.

Petsmart
I love this store. I did very well in this environment and impressed Mom!

No, Mom! This coat is not becoming on me.

Does that sign say "CLEARANCE??!!"

Mom wanted to buy me a new collar, but believe it or not, this cute collar was WAY too big. Who knew that there are dogs larger than I am?

Sale on shoes + girls = a long time settling

Joann's Fabrics

"HELLO! My name is Lex and I'm a guide dog in training!! Let me sing a song for you!!"

Mom was really losing her marbles---she had me do my "get dressed" command into this flag. I thought she was crazy! Although, it is rather neat that it has an "L" on it! That's the best letter in the alphabet!

It's official! Kohl's says it's spring, so it must be spring!

Shall I help you find a pair of shoes your size?!

Loose leash walking is a specialty of mine.

Shiny floors!

Then, we went to the mall. Look at my famous head tilt! :)

My very skilled at posing for pictures!

JcPenny's

Look at me! I can even practice settling with these ladies!

I remembered my favorite grate in the mall! Mom was surprised I remembered, but what can I say....Of course, I remembered! I always get a ton of rewards when I walk on it!

I rode in the glass elevator. Look at those people!

I watched the escalators.

THEN! Just when I thought we were going home, this car pulled up with a puppy in it. As it turns out, the puppy was Kinley. Remember I announced last week that I was getting my very own puppy! Well, here he was!

Hey little man! My name is Lex.
He is my nephew!

I hung out with Kinley on the way home.

We're both yellow Labs, but look at the difference in our coloring.

On Sunday morning, I had my first meal with my little nephew. He eats slowly!

We enjoyed some morning playtime. Look! I'm already rubbing off positively on Kinley--he's sitting for the camera!

I enjoyed playing with Kinley--or should I say that I enjoyed "showing" off my play skills in Kinley's presence!

Then, it was time for church. I showed Kinley the ropes of settling while Mom played the music. I did a fine job!

I also helped Kinley learn how to settle for the rest of the time, too.

I showed Kinley the best way to practice stairs.

Kinley really likes me!
I must admit we make quite a striking pair!

I played more on Sunday afternoon. I danced in front of Kinley with my toy, trying my best to entice him to play tug with me!
HA! And it worked!!!!

I got this down! If I stand nice and tall, Kinley can't reach the tug toy!

I'll be nice and lower the toy, so he can play, too!

Sometimes, Kinely and I just enjoy hanging out together.

After all that playtime, it was definitely time for me to put the little guy down for a nap.
But, I got tired, too! So, we both took a nap!

Kinley is almost the size of my head!

Harlow, Kinley, and I decided naps are definitely a good thing!
I was delighted to find this tree that I could practice walking on.
Kinley tried to follow my lead, but he's just not big enough yet. One day, buddy!

Something was terribly amiss....Kinley got his picture taken, while Harlow and I had to do a down stay. This is not right!

Phew--at least we could get in a few pictures!

Uncle and Nephew!

Spring flowers are beautiful!

I'm definitely am the tallest of the group.

What a beautiful group of dogs!

Look to the right!
Look to the left!

Playtime!

This playing with puppy thing is tiring!!

Harlow, Kinley, and I took our first walk together. I was surprised how well Kinley could keep up with us!
Look who I found?! Sammy!

I went to the post office.

I helped make a return at Walmart.

Aldi
I helped mom get some groceries.

Wait! There are trees in Aldi? Since when?!

I waited in the check out line by the bagels.
People may wonder if Kinley has puppy breath.
Yep, he does!!

Look at my ears!!
I had my first ever "big brother" or "Uncle" photoshoot with my little man, Kinley!

Seeing Kinley sleeping made me tired!

Just a little nap!
Family picture!
I showed Kinley how to walk on rocks!

We went to get the mail in the mailbox. I showed Kinley how important it is to walk nicely and pay attention to Mom.

I decided it was time to show Kinley some new footings.

Let's go sledding! Wait, but where's the snow?!

This saucer really has shrunk!

I'm a good problem solver! I can figure out how to have Kinley and me fit in the saucer--I stand, and he sits!

I'm the length of this sled!
Wednesday was International Guide Dog day. Kinely and I went to a local group to give a presentation about guide dogs. We were wonderful representatives!

I practiced working with a different handler for part of the time.
I will admit in the beginning I wanted to play with Kinley's toys. They're super fun toys!
But, then, Kinley and I settled nicely during the presentation/meal.
Look how big I look!

I'm trying to teach Kinley how to ride in a car!

Kinley and I went to a college for a "De-Stress Before Finals" event! Our friend, Yardley, was there, too, so we posed for a group picture.

Yardley and I practiced synchronized name response, recalls, and obedience. There's food involved, so we're in!

Yardley and I enjoyed playing a bit. Happy tails!
I practiced walking on some weird grated stairs.

I took Kinley to get his 9 week shots. Better him than me!
Kinley had his first class, so I showed him the ropes! He went to puppy class with Mom, while I participated in the big dog class.
I worked with one of our sitter handlers for class. Our class took place at a park, and I did a good job in this distracting environment!
L to R:
Ward, Ginko (back), me, and Iron
I love going to the park!
I went to Wal-Mart. What yummy stuff is on the shelves? I'm ignoring it!!

I made Mom very proud in the pet aisles!

Camping department

Baseball bats!!! I can't wait for baseball season!

Have you ever seen such a tower made of colorful balls?
The garden center is being set up outside of Wal-Mart. I had the best time exploring!!

That sun is so bright! It will surely help the plants and flowers grow!

I practiced walking several different footings!

These black footings were super cool!

Harlow, me, and Kinley!

Kinley and I are good walking buddies!

We're also good snuggling buddies!!

I want to give a special shout out to my cousin Ella Mae, as her 1st birthday was April 30th.
Happy Birthday to You!
Happy Birthday to You!Happy Birthday, dear Ella Mae!Happy Birthday to You!
This is a throwback of me helping Ella Mae learn how to explore and walk. We've both done a lot of growing since then!
We're having so much fun in this beautiful springtime weather!

I taught Kinley about the leaves!

There's not too much water in the sluice pipe.
I decided that Kinley's small crate is much better than mine, so I went in it to take a nap.

Settling with Kinley is very fun!

My paws have walked many miles in the last year.
Since I've been with Mom for a year tomorrow, I'll be doing a special review of my time with her on this puppy raising journey. Stay tuned!

Until Then,
Lex
